DIY Headboards from Home Improvement Rejects

If you’re tired of your “early marriage” headboard, bored with the brass in the guest room and discouraged by the disarray of pillows against the wall where there’s no headboard at all, just take a look around your home. Chances are you have enough raw material to revamp every bed in the house, and make a design statement while you’re doing it.

1. Think vertically

Tall headboards are popular these days. If you have a set of old shutters from your home’s exterior, or a pair of louvered doors that used to grace the linen closet, they can become a distinctive headboard for a twin bed. Sand the wood, or repaint, but shabby chic is still a popular look, so don’t aim for crisp and shiny.
